An SSL certificate encrypts the connection between your website and its visitors, and shows the padlock in the browser instead of a "Not Secure" warning. Your hosting includes a free Let's Encrypt certificate that you can issue and install yourself in a few minutes from cPanel.
Requirements
- Your domain must point to our nameservers and be resolving correctly.
- Your cPanel login details.
Installation Steps
- Log in to cPanel.
- On the home page, in the General Information panel, find SSL Certificate and click Add SSL Certificate.
- The SSL/TLS Certificates page opens on the Wizard tab. Under Issue a certificate, click:
Add the domains that you want to secure with this certificate. - A list of your domains will appear. Make sure to select:
- Your main domain, e.g.
example.com - The wildcard domain, e.g.
*.example.com
- Your main domain, e.g.
- Click Continue.
- Under Select the product that you would like for this certificate, click Let's Encrypt Certificate.
- Wait for the certificate to be issued and installed automatically. This usually takes no more than a minute or two.
Verify the Installation
Open your website at https://example.com and check that the padlock appears in the browser. You can also return to the cPanel home page and confirm that the SSL Certificate status no longer shows Expired.
Tip: Redirect Visitors to HTTPS Automatically
In cPanel, go to Domains and enable Force HTTPS Redirect for your domain so all visitors are sent to the secure version of your site.
Troubleshooting
- A "Resolve Issues" box appears: Click it to see the details. The most common cause is that the domain isn't pointing to our servers correctly.
- Wildcard (*.example.com) validation fails: Wildcard certificates are validated via DNS, so the domain must use our nameservers. If it doesn't, select only the main domain and
www.example.com. - Let's Encrypt certificates are valid for 90 days. If the status shows Expired again, repeat the steps above or contact our support team.
If you run into any issues, feel free to open a support ticket and we'll be happy to help.
